In a past life, after earning a Bachelor’s degree in Economics, I earned a modest living doing the news for a radio station. The inspiration for wanting to do that, as well as studying Economics, was Danny Schechter, the News Dissector on WBCN 104.1 FM in Boston. Danny died yesterday.
Mark — Thanks for the comment. Going back 40+ years, it was my appreciation of Schechter on ‘BCN that was the connection between myself and a friend in high school who was also influenced by Danny, and he is now an attorney who has done work for the ACLU.
I saw the headline and immediately thought “Danny Schechter.” Hadn’t heard about this. There was an underlying seriousness of purpose to the work he and Laquidara did (mixed in, of course, with the rock music and hip irony). He worked harder than he had to to be a rock station news guy. Thanks for marking his passing
