Happy Pet Day

November 15th, 2009

Happy Birthday, Petula Clark!

Petula Clark as a child actressPetula Clark

Petula says she’ll continue to work and perform as long as there’s an audience. Judging from this appearance in France a few months ago, she still has an audience.

It was 40 years ago, on Petula’s birthday, that BBC One TV broadcast its first programme in colour. BBC Two had been transmitting in colour for some months. The first colour show on BBC One was, “An Evening With Petula.”

I’m back! Some minor computer problems, as usual. Bonne anniversaire, cher Pet! Unlike K3, we can rely on you to always be yourself! May you have many more wonderful years ahead of you. I truly believe that people who do what they really love for a living live longer, and LOOK far younger than their years. Petula is a spectacular example!

    Somewhat belated Happy Birthday Petula.

Thanks for all the wonderful years of music you have given us, and here’s to a good few more.

Lovely new album of Christmas music with great new songs recorded this year, 2009, 60 years after your first commercial releases in 1949.

You just never cease to amaze, you lovely lovely woman.

    Hear, hear Dave!

There is, I feel, sometimes a tendency for “tragic” performers to be favored by certain fans. Petula has had her share of adversity in life, both professional and personal, but there is nothing in the least tragic about her. I admire Petula’s professionalism and her outlook — her capacity to carry on — as much as her talent and ability to entertain.

Doug. I agree. Quite simply Petula loves life. Yes, she’s had some good times and some bad, both personally and professionally. Well, who hasn’t? It’s just that her’s have so often (although not always) been lived in front of millions of people.

Whatever, she has got through everything, smiled and got on with her life and her work.

You know, in a newspaper interview not long ago here in Scotland, about health in general, she was asked “Would you like to live forever?”, she replied that she would like to live a long life, full of vitality, but to live for ever would deny her the opportunity of finding out what came next….

What a woman! I hope this link works…..
