I couldn’t find any place to thank you for my birthday mention, so I’m doing so here. Also, thank you again, for that ten minute post of the documentary film of my old home life at Coffee Lane. It made me so sad to watch it again because this year ought to have been one of joy to share with my dad. Not only are my boys learning to read, but I’m going to sign bound galleys of my novel, This Side Of Jordan, at the Book Expo America in May, something I think my dad would’ve been happy about. It does seem like such a cheat that Dad never saw my boys, and won’t see my book finally published. And it’s odd that I’m at least ten years older now than he was when sitting at Coffee Lane for that TV interview you posted. Life is strange. But thank you again.

    Hi, Monte!

Yes, life is indeed strange, especially when time and age are factored in. I remember when it was a novelty at work for an employee to be younger than my tenure there. And now, after 28 years, it’s the norm.

That’s fantastic news about your book! I’ve gotta get my own signed copy. The Book Expo is in New York, isn’t it? That’s a very do-able trip for me. My sister is in text book publishing, and my recollection is the Expo isn’t open to the public(?).

(For the Larissa fans who see this, Monte Schulz is the eldest son of Peanuts creator Charles M. Schulz. Monte’s birthday message is at this link.)

Yes, the Book Expo is at the Javits center in NYC. I’m not big on traveling to the East Coast, but Fantagraphics insisted and I feel obligated to them for having bought my book. And, yes again, it’s basically an industry event, not for the public, and I don’t know how many galleys there’ll be, but you can and should get a book for sure when it appears in the fall. It’s already listed on Amazon (a friend pointed out to me this week). I sold my first book in 1991, and now it may be that I have three books coming out in a year and a half. Drought and deluge. Funny, huh? I do think you’ll be impressed and surprised by This Side Of Jordan. Gary Groth was. He told me that he couldn’t figure out how I wrote it, where it came from. I told him I have no idea, either.
