The BBC’s Jonathan Ross, who I have praised up and down here, not only for his documentary “In Search of Steve Ditko,” but for his BBC2 radio programme, is in major hot water. I don’t even know yet what the furor is all about, but I heard enough on the BBC World Service on WBUR in Boston to know it’s big trouble.

The complete 48 Hours|Mystery program, “Did the Doctor Kill the Doctor?” is now available online. In an unexpected addendum to the story, I’ve been informed by my best friend, D.F. Rogers, that 48 Hours is now working on another show, about a totally unrelated murder, and last week CBS interviewed somebody with knowledge of the case. Dennis’ father.

Click here, read the story, and watch the videos. Do you think what happened to that boy was purely accidental? Unintentional? Yes. Careless? It was beyond careless. In my opinion it was negligent. What was his father — a medical doctor who runs a trauma center! — thinking? Why are so many gun lovers so appallingly, incredibly stupid?? Which makes them, by the way, extremely dangerous.

A funny coincidence came up when talking to CBS News about the 48 Hours|Mystery installment that just aired. I learned that the daughter of one of my father’s cousins is married to the nephew of CBS News veteran Morley Safer. This is her in September with Ron Howard, before he shaved for his video endorsing Barack Obama.
