Eric aces MCAS!
September 26th, 2008
Here in Massachusetts there’s a test all high school kids have to pass in order to graduate. It’s called the MCAS, for Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System.
The final test is given in the 10th grade, so that kids who fail it have two more chances to pass. The results have just arrived in the mail, for the tests Eric took last spring, and he placed advanced in all three categories — Math, Science, and English! Needless to say we are very proud of him.

Excellent, Eric! Congratulations! Pratt kids are smart, no two ways about it. Molly place uber-advanced on her PSSAs (Pennsylvania tests which also check Math, Science, and Engilsh), but they are widely criticized in our state for being too heavily weighted when considering which level class to put the kid in.

Whoo-Hoo! Way to go. And now he’s ready to graduate, right? Just kidding. But his class is the first to be required to pass scitech as well as math and English.

Yep, this year the requirements were kicked up a notch. Of course, while this means he’ll get out of high school there remains the matter of getting into college.
