This article in the Boston Globe says the New England mob isn’t what it used to be. I always wonder about pronouncements like this one, because they almost invite somebody to prove them wrong. Oh! I know who can bring organized crime back to New England in a big way. The Joker!

Say, the late great Heath Ledger WAS awesome as the Joker, wasn’t he? Somebody hand his family an Oscar! Too much violence for my taste, however, but we all still enjoyed it, even Molly (though I was covering her face through a lot of the movie).
Yeah, they don’t make crooks like they usta. Around here there is actually and “Amish Mafia!” No joke! These are younger Amish kids who run drugs to Harrisburg from Lancaster County. Nobody questions them because of the outfits and buggies, and they rarely get caught. Usually their parents have NO IDEA that Jacob and Ishmael are getting high behind the barn late at night …

Isn’t that something, Jean. I live in Montgomery County, 2 counties east of there. Lancaster County is not as wholesome as the tourism industry would have you believe. Lancaster County is the puppy and kitten mill capital of PA, if not the US and it’s deplorable! The state Congress, Gov. and Feds need to step up funding to stop this aberration. It’s disgusting! As for the Amish, I remember when 2 guys were arrested for cocaine trafficking. I always wondered if besides tobacco they were growing wacky tobacky!

Joan, my beloved yellow lab Gracie came from a Mennonite puppy mill. My husband meant well, but did not do his homework. I was grieving the loss of my dear departed black lab Sammy, some six months before, and had said if I was to ever have another lab, I wanted a yellow one. He should have gotten a rescue dog. Poor Gracie is so crippled with hip displasia at the tender age of five, she’ll be lucky to make it to seven. He shelled out nearly 300 bucks for her. Most likely, her mother was her sister, or worse.
Still, she is a beautiful “L.L. Bean dog” and so sweet and loving.

I know Jean it’s a shame about Gracie and all the other animals suffering like this. These “people” who run these mills ought to be thrown in jail and stay there!
