From Brazil to Belgium

June 21st, 2008

OK, you’ve had your little break from K3, but now we’re back with more of Karen, Kathleen, and Kristel. I can’t say if Xuxa’s success in Brazil 15-20 years ago had any influence on Studio 100’s introduction of K3 as a Pop act that hosts a children’s show, but watching these videos I have to wonder.

This is K3 with a Latin beat. The second video, “Feest” (Celebration), has some bizarre CG models of the ladies. The last video is a live version of the same song, and at the moment it’s having buffering problems on YouTube, and that’s why it’s last. If it locks up, drag the button past that point and it should pick up again. The third tune is their brand-new single, which is somewhat evocative I think of ABBA’s “Fernando.”

But now let’s meet Xuxa. This is a 1993 feature from Inside Edition, and it’s introduced by none other than…. Bill O’Reilly.

O’Reilly before he became an *******. You know, I remember Xuxa! and there’s the poor, less attractive sister. Her show was a predecessor to a lot of the live Nickelodeon shows they used to run in the afternoon. Say! Look at all those DADS in Xuxa’s audience!

OK, ladies, who’s with me? Time to deprogramme (nod to Pet) my twin brother Doug. He’s gotten on jags like this before, but K3 has really gotten out of hand. Cactus Lizzie? Joan? CAROL? Help me out here! My God, we may have to … boycott Dograt.com! ;)

Carol said fifteen years ago that Xuxa was my secret shame, and I assume she feels the same way about K3, although it’s no secret! Actually, this is all leading up to Petula (remember to not call her Pet!), it really is.

Hi Jean! Now I know what people who have O.C.D. are like! Doug puts me to mind of our cat Peach who was diagnosed with mild O.C.D. When he was fixed, (Peach, not Doug :-D), he obsessed over the ladies so much that he’d go around crying and marking his territory anyway, and if he’d see a lady cat outside who likely was intact, he’d start singing an aria to her. After 2 years on Amitriptyline his O.C.D. lessened to where he no longer needed meds, and he’s a happy indoor cat who loves laps, kisses and being petted. So yes, males of 2 species can easily obsess and hopefully the human will be as easy to change as the feline! :-)

Maybe you think the people who leave comments are the only ones looking at this blog, but it’s accessed from nearly 5,000 different addresses every month. And a surprising number of those addresses are in Holland, where K3 is very popular.

And who knows? Maybe the next thing I post that is new to you will be of interest.

By the way, the Jonas Brothers are coming up, because they appeared on a TV show in England with Petula Clark. I don’t know if you like the Jonas Brothers, but if you do I won’t say they stink, but I won’t say they’re any good, either.

Molly also does a very mean vocal imitiation of K3 singing, but I REFUSED to let her leave that on your answering machine! ;)
