21

March 30th, 2008

No, not 21 the movie. I mean 21 miles. Today I covered the distance from the starting line of the Boston Marathon to the top of the infamous Heartbreak Hill. It took longer than the last time I did it, two years ago, before my ankle injury, but I set a goal and met it exactly, so I’m pleased.

When I got back home I was expecting to see the new control panel for my Web server account, but instead there’s this message.

Your account has not yet passed our comprehensive QA process. We are still working on moving your account and hope to have it on the new platform in the near future.

Don’t know if this means there’s a problem or not, but for now I’m still on the old platform.

This afternoon D.F. Rogers came over to the house for a visit. As always, lots of fun doing the fanboy bit, and as always there wasn’t nearly enough time. My friend Morris asked me a while ago if I knew what he was going to do when he retires in a couple of years. “Read old comic books, listen to music, and watch movies?” I asked. “YES! How did you guess?”

Congratulations on the run, Dougie! And a big thumbs-down to your server provider. How dare they not find DogRat worthy? I’ll try to keep up with the blog on the road. We’re finally off to Florida tomorrow. Tom just drove up in a 2008 Chevy Suburban. NICE! There’s not turning back, and he says we’re even going to Busch (not Bush, thank God) Gardens!

I made all the reservations, only because I’m good at it, after years of being a secretary. I prefer to do them over the phone, because the on-screen data is NOT really up-to-date. I always get a confirmation number plus the name of the service rep who handled the transaction. The most nerve-wracking reservations I ever did? Ralph Nader flying into Boston Logan, getting a deluxe suite at the Cambridge Ritz-Carlton, and flying out again in less than 48 hours. He didn’t want to rent a car, thank GOD! His secretary at the time, Annie, knew all his quirks, so that helped. Ralph like a bottle of Seagrams waiting in the room for him. Nah, no hookers.

Man, I’ve gone off-track again! Say, Morris’s retirement sounds just like yours! and Dennis’s, too.

Thanks, Joan! I’m back to the goal I had when I first ran this crazy thing, and that’s simply to finish.
