In 15 minutes you can learn about a Pratt family’s origins in England. I don’t know if there’s a direct connection to my own family. What I want to know is why there’s a rat in the middle of our name!

It seems our ancestors included a bunch of religious zealots! I saw the Mormon Parley Pratt’s picture in there. His killing looms large in the history of the Mormons. Frontline on PBS had a Mormon series, but only refers to the incident and doesn’t name Pratt. I’ve read the book “Under the Banner of Heaven” by Jon Krakauer, which offers a much more comprehensive history of the event.
