Actually, the last time Frank Rich was on Colbert’s show, he was positively leaden! Couldn’t believe how boring he was. But, yes, he was in better form this week and, yes, Colbert was simply playing Republican straight man.
I am assuming that Colbert is playing “straight Republican” as tongue-in-cheek. Or IS he? Either way, Rich matches his wit every step of the way!
